NZ ECE Curriculum Te Wharaki

IMG_1013

We are learning so much about the amazing national ECE curriculum. A bilingual, bicultural curriculum, founded on the principles of the Maori culture.

Te Whariki means, “woven mat”. There are four principles: 1) Empowerment 2) Holistic Development 3) Family and Community 4) Relationships These four principles are woven together with five strands 1) Well-being 2) Belonging 3) Contribution 4) Communication 5) Exploration             “If we do not weave these together, then there is a hole in the mat. If there is a hole in the mat, then there is a hole in the child” ~ Lorraine, Tots Corner
